The renowned watch enthusiast, Adam Levine, has placed a surprising order with a watchmaking workshop in Geneva: a custom-made Rolex Daytona worth $4 million, designed to glow in the dark.
As the lead singer of the band Maroon 5, Levine is a true watch aficionado, evident from his incredible collection of standout timepieces. Among watch enthusiasts like John Mayer and Ed Sheeran, Levine stands out for his preference for Rolex watches. His personal collection houses both vintage classics and more contemporary models from the iconic Swiss brand. Recently, Levine showcased his collection in the famous “Talking Watches” video series by Hodinkee, where he discussed his horological treasures.

One standout piece in his collection is the Rolex Daytona Ref. 6263 Panda Paul Newman, an impressive watch for any serious collector. However, what’s catching attention is the custom Rolex Daytona named “Neon”.
While purists and traditional Rolex collectors might raise an eyebrow at the idea of customizing a Rolex, Levine finds himself at a stage in life and career where he can confidently explore his ideas without worrying about criticism.
According to Hodinkee, the idea for the custom Daytona came to Levine one night while he was in bed. After discovering the work of Artisans de Genève, an independent watchmaking workshop in Geneva known for its meticulous customizations and restorations, Levine got in touch. Alongside the founder of the workshop, John Isaac, he brought the idea of the “Neon” to life after months of collaboration.
The goal was to transform his gold Rolex Daytona 116508 into a unique piece that reflected his personality while retaining the recognizable essence of Rolex. The result was a one-of-a-kind golden Daytona with screw-down pushers and a white dial in the style of Paul Newman, similar to the 6263 model. Levine expressed, “I like classic watches, but I also want something unique that’s a reflection of myself.”
Creating the custom watch required Artisans De Genève to completely disassemble Levine’s original Rolex Daytona and apply their craftsmanship for a complete transformation. Dubbed “Neon” due to the luminous details on the bezel, rotor, hands, and dial, the watch features a uniquely carved dial made of natural sapphire.
The luminescent details not only adorn the dial but also enhance the bright white bezel, reminiscent of a retro style with a bakelite finish. The Super-Luminova hands and the 12 Neon markers give a distinctive personality to the watch. The movement also didn’t go unnoticed: a highly customized version of Rolex’s caliber 4130 was meticulously handcrafted by the company’s artisans.
This level of refinement doesn’t come cheap: Levine’s original Rolex Daytona, which costs less than $100,000, underwent a meticulous transformation that amounted to about $4 million. While this might be an impressive amount, it’s justifiable considering the meticulous work and exclusivity that the watch represents. So, what are your thoughts?
